Puglia car hire

Choose a Puglia car hire pickup by the first and last overnight. Bari Airport suits a route beginning around Bari, the northern coast or the Valle d'Itria; Brindisi Airport can suit a Salento-led trip. At Bari, SIXT's counter is in the arrivals rental area and its return is on Viale Enzo Ferrari. At Brindisi, SIXT's counter is in departures, its vehicles are at P9, and its return is signed from Contrada Baroncino. These are supplier-specific examples: follow the exact brand on your booking. If Bari city is the first stay, the airport rail connection can make a later pickup worth comparing.

Choose Bari or Brindisi by the route

The airports serve different opening legs within a long region.

Bari for the northern opening

Bari Airport is useful when the first accommodation is in Bari, the northern coast or an inland route toward the Valle d'Itria. SIXT places its counter in the arrivals rental area, with its return on Viale Enzo Ferrari. The rail link to Bari Centrale also makes a city-first stay possible without beginning the rental at the airport. If you will spend several days on foot in Bari before driving, compare that transfer and a later named branch with airport hire days and parking. Let the first night's address, not an imagined regional centre, determine the pickup.

Plan Bari Airport collection

Brindisi for a southern opening

Brindisi Airport can shorten the first leg when the road trip begins around Salento, Lecce or the southern side of the Valle d'Itria. SIXT's counter is in the departure hall, about a short walk left from the arrivals exit, while its vehicle area is P9 outside. This differs from Bari's arrivals counter and return route. If a flight arrives late, allow time for that walk, paperwork and the drive to the first accommodation. A long southern loop after an evening landing may be less comfortable than a nearby first night.

Plan Brindisi Airport collection

Build a route before choosing the car

The region is large enough that a careless loop spends too much time backtracking.

Link stops by area

For a Bari start, group nearby coastal or inland nights instead of moving the car and luggage for every town visit. A route may then continue through the Valle d'Itria toward a Salento base. For a Brindisi start, the southern part of the region can come first and the north later if the trip length supports it. The regional tourism authority treats Bari and coast, Valle d'Itria and Salento as distinct areas. Choose overnight clusters and parking before deciding whether the final airport should match the first.

Compare a one-way end

A Bari-to-Brindisi or Brindisi-to-Bari finish can remove a final backtrack, but only when the selected supplier offers those exact airport branches and the quote includes any one-way fee. Compare that fee with the fuel, driving time, tolls and accommodation cost of a loop. If the trip stays mainly around one side of Puglia, returning to the starting airport may be simpler. Enter the final flight airport before selecting the rental, because changing the drop-off after booking can alter the price or be unavailable.

Compare a Bari to Brindisi finish

Allow for the actual collection area

An airport label alone does not tell you where the keys and vehicle are.

Bari arrivals and the car area

At Bari Airport, SIXT's office is in the rental area within the arrivals hall facing the arrival exit. Its car spaces are beyond the terminal parking area, and its return route approaches from Viale Enzo Ferrari. Other operators can differ, so check the name and meeting instructions on the offer before setting a collection hour. Complete licence and card checks at the counter, inspect the supplied car, photograph pre-existing marks and confirm the fuel or charge level before driving toward the first stay.

Brindisi departures and P9

At Brindisi, SIXT directs arriving customers left from the baggage-claim exit toward departures for the counter, then outside to its P9 vehicle spaces. Do not assume every supplier has an arrivals desk because the airport has rental companies. Confirm the booked operator, whether an after-hours collection is accepted, and the walk with luggage before paying. P9 is also central to the SIXT return, but another brand may use a separate car park or key process. Set the first drive only after allowing for this handover.

Keep old-town gates and parking legal

A car helps between towns but may be a burden inside a historic centre.

Check Lecce before driving in

Lecce's historic centre has a controlled ZTL with permit rules and electronic access. If the accommodation appears to be inside the old centre, ask for an authorised route and legal place to unload before arrival. A booking confirmation or an SUV does not itself give entry rights. The municipality's access arrangements can change, so use current signs and official rules for the final street. It is often easier to park at an authorised edge location and walk with light luggage than to discover a camera gate at the end of a narrow lane.

Review Italy driving decisions

Check the lodging's real parking

Coastal towns and hill centres can have limited spaces during busy periods. Ask the accommodation whether a reserved bay exists, how far it is from the room, and whether the approach has access limits or size restrictions. A car class that fits four adults may not fit a small historic garage, while a compact car may have too little covered boot space for their luggage. Decide on the car after choosing at least the first few stays. Do not leave bags visible in the parked cabin during day stops.

Choose a car for the luggage

Use the airport's named return route

The final driving instruction depends on both airport and supplier.

Bari: approach Viale Enzo Ferrari

For a SIXT Bari Airport return, navigate to the firm's return area on Viale Enzo Ferrari and follow its Car return signs into the designated spaces. Allow time for fuel, finding the correct approach, a condition check and the walk to departures. A route to the passenger drop-off lane is not a rental handover. If another operator is booked, use its instructions instead of the SIXT return. A same-airport loop still needs a return time that leaves enough margin for the flight and any inspection.

Brindisi: follow Contrada Baroncino to P9

SIXT's Brindisi return is signposted from Contrada Baroncino to P9. Its current instructions describe a barrier, an entry ticket and reserved spaces, followed by key handover at the counter or the directed key box. Save that destination before the final road day, and confirm an out-of-hours arrangement if the flight is early. Do not drive to the arrivals kerb or assume Bari's return route applies. Allow the P9 walk, luggage handling and airline check-in when setting the rental end time.

Compare the whole Puglia hire commitment

Two airport quotes are comparable only with the same itinerary.

Check contract money and permission

Use the same passengers, bags, dates and return branch when comparing. Check the lead driver's accepted card and deposit hold, damage and theft excess, optional cover, fuel or charging rule, mileage, additional driver and child-seat charges. If a route includes a ferry, foreign country or unsealed track, ask whether the exact supplier and cover permit it. A lower daily rate can be outweighed by a one-way charge or extra rental days. Do not assume an airport operator roster proves live inventory for a particular category or date.

Add toll, parking and transfer costs

Italian motorway toll booths have lanes marked for cash, cards and electronic collection. Take and keep an entry ticket where issued, and do not use a Telepass-only lane without an eligible device. Ask if the rental includes an electronic toll product and any administration fee. Add parking at old-town or beach stays and the transfer from Bari Airport if the city comes first. The Bari rail link offers a real alternative, but its timetable and luggage fit should be checked for the actual flight. Compare totals for the full route.

Estimate the complete road cost

Select a car for the stops and luggage

The region rewards a vehicle that is easy to park and large enough to live with.

Test the boot before departure

A Puglia circuit may carry beach bags, child equipment and full suitcases between stays. Count real items before selecting a category and keep them under a closed parcel shelf where possible. A compact car may work for two people and narrow parking, while a family may need more boot space. The booked category can be supplied as an equivalent model, so confirm automatic transmission or other necessary features in the offer. At the airport, inspect the car and ask for any issue to be recorded before the first drive.

Check passenger and boot fit

Keep arrival and return days simple

A flight delay, rental handover and unfamiliar road can make the first day shorter than a map estimate. Choose an easy first stop and confirm the accommodation's parking entrance before setting off. On the last day, leave space for fuel, traffic, the booked return lot and the walk to the terminal. A one-way itinerary is useful only if its final branch is accepted in the quote. The car should support the intended Puglia route rather than force a long airport backtrack at either end.

Search a real Puglia airport branch

A region-level search must resolve to a specific handover.

Set the starting airport

Choose Bari Airport for a northern or Bari-first itinerary and Brindisi Airport for a Salento-first one, unless the flight or first stay points elsewhere. Enter a pickup time that allows for baggage and the named counter. Confirm the operator and collection point in the offer before treating the price as comparable. If staying in Bari first, run a second search for a later city branch after using the airport train; compare the extra transfer with airport rental days and parking.

Set the end airport before booking

If the flight home leaves the other side of Puglia, enter that return airport as a separate exact branch and examine the one-way total. Keep the supplier's return address and key handover on the trip plan, particularly for an early flight. A Bari pickup and Brindisi return are different operational steps, not simply the same regional car hire label. Compare that shape with a same-airport loop using fuel, tolls, driving time and another night if needed. The useful quote is one you can collect and return as planned.

Puglia rental questions

Which Puglia airport is better for car hire?

Choose by the first and last nights. Bari suits a Bari or northern start; Brindisi can suit a Salento start. Compare the actual flight, branch and one-way total.

Can I collect at Bari and return at Brindisi?

Only if the selected supplier offers that exact branch pair. Compare any one-way fee with the cost of driving back.

Where does SIXT return at Brindisi Airport?

Its return follows signs from Contrada Baroncino into P9. Check the booking for the bay, ticket and key process.
