Check the card used for security
Find the pickup payment clause for the exact company and vehicle class. Confirm the card network, physical-card requirement, name match and any flight itinerary condition before paying.
Booking decision guide
A debit card that pays for an online booking may still fail the security deposit check at collection. The country and company table separates deposit acceptance from final payment. It uses named suppliers and branches because card rules vary by location, vehicle class and rate. Bring the physical card in the main driver’s name and check its available balance against the rental plus hold before travelling.

These are named company and branch examples. Confirm the conditions for your selected pickup and vehicle class.
The table shows whether a named company or branch may accept a debit card for the security deposit at collection. Check the chosen offer, car class and deposit amount; online payment alone does not settle the counter requirement.
Useful next steps: Check Heathrow pickup, Check Madrid Airport pickup
Find the pickup payment clause for the exact company and vehicle class. Confirm the card network, physical-card requirement, name match and any flight itinerary condition before paying.
A debit hold can reduce available bank funds during and after the rental. Ask the branch for the expected security amount and keep enough funds separate from daily travel costs.
A supplier may take the estimated rental cost and a separate security amount. A credit-card hold reserves credit; a debit transaction or hold reduces funds available in the linked bank account. The eventual release or refund can depend on the bank and any extra charges.
Useful next steps: Prepare the payment documents, Include the security hold in trip cash flow
Open the selected offer’s pickup payment terms. Check exact card network, physical-card requirement, main-driver name, deposit size, vehicle exclusions and required documents. Do not assume a debit card used online can pass the counter check.
Ask the named branch whether a flight itinerary, local address evidence or extra ID is needed. Leave enough available funds for the whole security amount in addition to trip spending. A prepaid or virtual card is a different product from a bank debit card.
Enterprise at Heathrow accepts debit for eligible classes with an airport itinerary condition. Madrid, Paris Orly and Düsseldorf have debit routes for eligible cars, but their card and vehicle limits differ. Lisbon, Belgrade and Durrës require a credit card for the deposit, even where another payment method may settle rental charges.
Useful next steps: Check LAX pickup terms, Check Miami Airport pickup terms
Enterprise US airport debit acceptance requires a ticketed return itinerary and matching address details. Avis generally accepts qualifying debit at many US locations but has location and premium-category exclusions. These are separate company rules.
For an eligible SIXT Spain one-way booking, a named debit card can secure the pickup deposit, but some categories require credit and the station pair depends on the tariff. A one-way return to a Spanish island is excluded. Enterprise Madrid has different card and vehicle-class limits. Check the selected offer for the exact branch, category and card.
If your only card is debit, choose an offer whose written branch terms accept it for your car class. A second card in someone else’s name may not solve the problem. If the required credit card is unavailable, amend or cancel under the booked terms before travel rather than relying on a desk exception.
Useful next steps: Use the counter checklist
Match the card presented to the main driver and booking. Ask the staff to identify the security charge or hold separately from the rental price and keep the signed agreement and receipt.
Get the final invoice and inspection record. Watch for the deposit release and any later toll, fuel or damage charge. If an amount is missing, compare the final invoice with the bank transaction and contact the supplier with the contract number.
Choose the actual pickup, enter the main driver’s age and dates, then check the vehicle class and payment conditions in the selected offer.
Preparing live car hire search
Use the answers to identify the checks that matter. Check the selected supplier terms and current local rules before booking.
Only when the actual supplier and branch accept debit for the security deposit on that vehicle class. Online payment alone does not establish counter eligibility.
Some do. Enterprise US airport rentals and the Heathrow example impose ticketed return-travel conditions, while other companies and branches can differ.
Do not assume so. Several named policies exclude prepaid cards even when ordinary bank debit cards are accepted.
A debit charge or hold can reduce the available bank balance until the supplier releases or refunds it and the bank finishes processing.
