Reagan National (DCA)
Best for: Collect near central Washington for a regional drive
Choose Parking 1 for on-airport brands or the separate Avis/Budget shuttle.
Reagan National airport car rental has two distinct collection patterns. Alamo, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty and SIXT use on-airport counters on Parking 1 first floor, reached on foot or by the Rental Car/Parking shuttle. Avis and Budget are off-airport options with their own branded shuttle stops. Save the booked company before leaving Terminal 1 or 2. Return to that company’s designated lot, not a general terminal lane; the airport-wide information does not establish a single return entrance for every operator.

Best for: Collect near central Washington for a regional drive
Choose Parking 1 for on-airport brands or the separate Avis/Budget shuttle.
Selected airport rental operators and collection arrangements. Check availability in your search. Your selected offer and voucher identify the booked branch.
Walk toward Parking 1 or take the Airport Shuttle to Parking 1/Rental Car. Rental club members may have a different key collection floor.
At Terminal 1 use the outer curb north of Door 5. At Terminal 2 use the first curb at Doors 3 or 8. Their collection is not in Parking 1.
The operator name determines the passenger route.
On-airport counters are on the first floor of Parking 1. The Rental Car/Parking shuttle boards between Doors 1 and 2 at Terminal 1 or near Doors 3 and 8 at Terminal 2. Walking toward Parking 1 takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Avis and Budget instead use branded off-airport shuttles, so do not walk into Parking 1 for either of those reservations.
The shuttle is not interchangeable with the airport Parking 1 service.
For Avis or Budget, go to the off-airport branded shuttle: Terminal 1 outer curb north of Door 5, or Terminal 2 first curb near Doors 3 and 8. At Terminal 2 the curb area overlaps the on-airport shuttle area, so identify the bus name before boarding. Confirm the return depot and shuttle time in the booked terms before leaving the counter.
Central Washington may be easier without immediate car storage.
Reagan National has a Metrorail station linked to Terminal 2 by enclosed bridges. A Terminal 1 passenger can take an airport shuttle to reach the connected bridge. If the first nights are in Washington without a road trip, compare rail and a later city branch with rental days and parking. A regional Virginia or Maryland itinerary beginning on arrival may justify airport collection.
Compare DCA and later city pickupThe departure airport should govern the return choice.
Reagan National is in Arlington and has Parking 1 and off-airport operator patterns. Washington Dulles is a different airport with another rental process. If a trip lands at DCA and departs IAD, request those exact points in a one-way quote. Do not return to a Washington-area rental branch just because its name sounds close to the flight airport.
Compare the separate Dulles pickupOperator choice affects both transfers and rental conditions.
Look at the payable total, security hold, damage excess, protection exclusions, fuel policy, mileage, extra drivers and child seats. Add hotel parking, route tolls and any different return location. For an Avis or Budget offer, count its separate shuttle and depot time as part of the travel plan. A lower day rate is not enough to judge the total cost or the earliest practical departure.
Estimate the DCA rental totalUrban parking and a regional drive pull in different directions.
A compact category may suit a smaller party if bags fit safely and central parking is part of the trip. Families and longer Virginia or Maryland drives need enough seats, trunk room and confirmed child-seat options. Do not assume an SUV changes access rules, tolls or the supplier agreement. Check the quote and the first parking location before choosing a class.
Plan passenger and bag space from Reagan National AirportNo single DCA vehicle-return entrance serves every brand.
For an on-airport booking, follow that operator’s Parking 1 return directions. Avis and Budget return to their off-airport facilities and require a terminal shuttle. The airport rental overview establishes the passenger pickup paths, but not a precise customer driving route to each company bay. Resolve that route from the booked operator before flight day; allow time for fuel, inspection and the terminal transfer.
The right airport depends on the first stay and final flight.
For a route weighted towards Baltimore or other Maryland stops, compare BWI with Reagan National using the real flight and first destination. The airports have different rental transfers and are separate pickup choices.
Baltimore/Washington International Airport pickup and returnOn the first floor of Parking 1. Walk from the terminal or take the Rental Car/Parking shuttle.
No. Their DCA pickup uses separate branded off-airport shuttles from terminal curbs.
No. Return to the booked company lot. Confirm its exact driving entrance and any shuttle leg in the reservation instructions.
Choose your dates and compare the total price, pickup arrangements and rental conditions. Check the branch and return plan before confirming an offer.
