San Antonio International Airport (SAT)
Best for: Collecting on arrival for a trip beyond the downtown core
The rental counter lobby is across the Sky Bridge from Terminal B; compare the booked branch's collection hours with the flight arrival.
San Antonio Airport rental counters are in the Consolidated Car Rental Facility. From either arrival terminal, follow the rental car signs to Terminal B, go up to the mezzanine and cross the Sky Bridge to the counter lobby. This is a walk, not a rental shuttle trip. Airport pickup suits an immediate drive to the missions, Hill Country or another Texas city. If the first days are around the River Walk, compare a transfer and later city rental against unused car days and hotel parking. For the return, navigate to the rental facility and follow the rental return and booked company signs, not the passenger drop-off curb.

Best for: Collecting on arrival for a trip beyond the downtown core
The rental counter lobby is across the Sky Bridge from Terminal B; compare the booked branch's collection hours with the flight arrival.
Selected airport rental operators and collection arrangements. Check availability in your search. Your selected offer and voucher identify the booked branch.
From either baggage claim, follow Rental Car signs to the Terminal B mezzanine. Cross the Sky Bridge to the facility lobby and proceed to Enterprise's counter. The branch address is 9559 Airport Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78216. Return to that address, follow the overhead rental signs to Enterprise, and use the branch's stated after-hours procedure only if it is part of the reservation. Allow time to walk back across the bridge to the terminal.
The airport places Alamo in the same rental facility lobby reached from Terminal B's mezzanine Sky Bridge. Check the Alamo reservation for its particular vehicle aisle, counter service and return instructions; the shared lobby does not make Enterprise's key procedure Alamo's procedure.
The terminal and the rental facility are joined by a pedestrian bridge, but the correct counter still depends on the booked company.
After collecting checked bags, follow the airport's Rental Car signs toward Terminal B. Take the elevator or escalator to its mezzanine, cross the Sky Bridge and enter the Consolidated Car Rental Facility lobby. This route applies whether the flight lands at Terminal A or B. Find the actual company on the reservation before starting paperwork. The rental parking levels and vehicle aisle come after the counter process; a terminal passenger pickup lane is not the collection point. If mobility assistance is needed, use the airport's accessible route and ask staff before leaving the terminal.
Prepare the SAT counter documentsAllow for landing, baggage, the walk to Terminal B, paperwork and the vehicle inspection. Airport facility access does not mean every company serves every arrival hour. Check the selected branch's current counter and delayed-flight instructions before paying, especially for a late arrival. At the vehicle, compare the registration and fuel level with the agreement and record visible damage before departure. Put the first accommodation or destination into navigation while parked rather than attempting to choose a route in the rental exit lane.
A downtown start and a multi-stop Texas trip have different pickup economics.
If the first stay is centered on the River Walk or a downtown meeting, add the hotel's parking charge and days the car would sit unused to the SAT quote. VIA Route 5 boards at the far west end of the Terminal B outer curb on the arrivals level and connects the airport with downtown. A taxi or rideshare may fit a group with several cases better. Confirm a later city branch, its opening hours and its eventual return location before choosing this sequence; moving the pickup out of SAT may change the total rental terms.
Compare SAT pickup with a later city startA car earns its place earlier if the itinerary starts with several mission sites, Hill Country lodging or a drive toward Austin. San Antonio Missions National Historical Park has four separate mission locations, each with parking, so a multi-site visit is a different transport problem from a walkable downtown stay. List the actual stops and hotel before selecting the collection time. A late landing followed by an unfamiliar highway drive can be less attractive than sleeping locally and collecting the next morning, even when the rate allows immediate pickup.
Compare United States pickup regionsThe return is a separate airport task, with its own approach road and walking time.
For Enterprise, set 9559 Airport Blvd as the return destination and follow the overhead car rental signs into the facility, then the Enterprise signs to its lane. Other companies share the facility but can have different key, inspection and after-hours rules. Read the agreement for the required fuel level and exact return time. Leave enough time to unload, photograph the car and fuel gauge where safe, complete the handback, cross the Sky Bridge and reach the airline check-in area. Driving to the passenger departures curb first does not complete the rental return.
An early flight needs a return plan that fits both the branch procedure and airline check-in. Enterprise accepts after-hours returns under its SAT branch procedure, but those steps belong to that branch and may leave later charges or condition checks to the next staffed period. Confirm the procedure on the final agreement, remove personal items and keep a copy of the return record. If the itinerary changes to an Austin or another Texas airport drop-off, search that destination branch before booking and compare its one-way terms instead of assuming a SAT return can be exchanged later.
A SAT offer can change materially with cover, parking and the return branch.
Read the chosen offer for taxes, airport charges, security hold, damage excess, liability protection, additional drivers, child seats and fuel. Enterprise's SAT policy places conditions on debit-card use and deposits, but each operator and rate can differ. Bring the lead driver's original license and a suitable card with capacity beyond the prepaid amount. Do not assume an optional waiver is included merely because the price panel mentions protection. If an additional driver will take the first highway leg, get that person added to the contract before leaving the facility.
Estimate the full SAT rental costBudget fuel, hotel parking, any toll roads selected by navigation and a possible one-way fee when the car ends at another branch. A Texas trip toward Austin is not automatically a free alternate drop-off. Compare the same pickup, drop-off, dates, driver and cover in each result; switching only the displayed daily rate hides these differences. If the trip includes days walking downtown, compare the total with an airport transfer and later collection. Use the actual accommodation's parking policy rather than assuming every hotel includes a space.
The right vehicle depends on the whole party and the longest luggage leg.
Count suitcases, cabin bags, child restraints and passengers for the airport transfer and any later hotel changes. A small sedan can be easy to park downtown, but it loses that advantage if cases must sit visibly on a seat. A larger category is useful when it genuinely carries the whole party without blocking sight lines; an SUV badge alone does not prove that bags fit. Check the booked transmission and child-seat arrangement, then inspect the assigned vehicle's real trunk before accepting it.
Check luggage fit for the SAT carFor the missions and a normal city-to-city Texas road itinerary, the practical questions are cabin comfort, luggage and parking dimensions. Four-wheel drive is not implied by a Hill Country address and does not grant access to an unpaved or restricted road. Check any lodging's final approach and the rental agreement before using a gravel driveway or remote route. If a family needs the rear row of a minivan, compare luggage room with that row upright rather than relying on the category's passenger count alone.
The arrival route should follow the first real stop, not a generic downtown pin.
The park's mission sites run south from Mission Concepción through Mission San José, San Juan and Espada. Enter the specific mission address rather than the park name, and leave room to move between them. A later Austin leg follows a different corridor and can make an Austin Airport return relevant if the flight departs there. Compare that return in the reservation and use the Austin Airport rental guide for its own pickup and handback steps. Keep a single Texas itinerary with only the stops the group can comfortably drive after arrival.
Plan an Austin Airport returnUse current route and weather information before setting out, especially if a flight delay pushes the first drive into darkness. The airport rental facility is near highway access, but the correct exit depends on whether the first lodging is downtown, south by the missions or north toward another city. Pick that address before leaving the garage. Leave margin for fuel and the final return, and do not treat a route planner's optimistic arrival time as a safe buffer for a flight or another fixed appointment.
Check current Texas road conditionsThe right airport depends on the first stay and final flight.
If Dallas rather than San Antonio is the first stop, compare a Love Field arrival and its off-terminal rental handover. Do not build a Texas itinerary around a distant airport solely because a headline quote is lower.
Dallas Love Field Airport pickup and returnFor a journey beginning in El Paso, compare an ELP arrival with the longer first drive from San Antonio International Airport. Enterprise has a first-floor rental-facility counter across from baggage claim; other companies can use another counter route, so match the chosen branch and return address.
Compare El Paso International Airport collectionThe Consolidated Car Rental Facility is reached on foot from Terminal B's mezzanine Sky Bridge. Follow the rental car signs from either arrival terminal. A separately booked off-airport company could give different instructions.
Follow airport rental return signs to the Consolidated Car Rental Facility, then follow the booked company's signs. Enterprise uses 9559 Airport Blvd. Confirm the exact company lane and key procedure in the agreement.
Enterprise accepts after-hours returns under its SAT branch procedure. Check the current agreement for the steps and allow walking time from the facility to the terminal. Another company's policy may differ.
Compare an airport transfer plus a later rental with airport collection. Include downtown parking, unused rental days, luggage movement and the later branch's hours in the total.
Not for the paved mission-to-mission route alone. Choose space for all passengers and luggage, then check the assigned vehicle and any road restrictions in the rental contract.
