Identify the landing before paying
Cruise passengers may tender to the old port at Fira rather than arrive at Athinios. A booking for Athinios would then require an extra transfer across the island. Confirm the actual ship landing and the supplier meeting point before reserving a car for a short shore visit. A transfer or tour may suit limited hours better than collection paperwork and a same day return.
Do not count on taking the rental by ferry
A ferry ticket for a person is not permission to carry a hired vehicle between islands. Hertz Greece requires advance written permission and separate ferry cover for its vehicles. Other suppliers set their own conditions. If the trip continues to another island, compare returning before boarding with an expressly permitted vehicle crossing, including the return station and potential ferry cost in the actual contract.

From Athinios
At Athinios, first locate the agreed vehicle handover before joining the uphill road. Keep bags and documents accessible while meeting the operator. A ferry delay can affect a timed meeting; share the sailing and a reachable mobile number. Avoid scheduling a distant attraction straight after disembarkation. A port return for a ferry departure also needs time for refuelling, inspection and the road descent.

The last parking place must match the rental agreement.
Airport departure
For a flight, save the provider's airport return bay and key procedure before the last day. Allow for fuel, traffic, inspection and walking back to departures. A car collected at Athinios cannot simply be left at JTR unless an airport return is in the selected offer. Photograph the final condition and fuel and retain the handback record until charges settle.
Ferry departure
For Athinios, confirm that the supplier accepts return at the ferry port and identify the exact meeting point and time. The road descent and port activity need a buffer before sailing. If the car was collected at JTR, request any port drop as a quoted different station return ahead of time. A cruise old port departure is not an Athinios rental return by default.
