Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW)
Best for: An immediate drive after landing
Use the booked operator, not just the airport name, to find its desk and car park.
Warsaw Chopin Airport car hire
At Warsaw Chopin Airport, SIXT has a counter in Terminal A arrivals: from baggage exit 1 turn left, or from exit 2 turn right toward the rent a car zone. Its vehicle return is at parking area P34, reached by following Rent a car return signs from Żwirki i Wigury Street. Other companies can have different desks and return lanes, so match the voucher to the actual operator. Collect here when you drive on after landing; if the first days are in central Warsaw, compare a transfer and later city branch with paying for parking and idle rental days.

Terminal A arrivals rent a car zone
- SIXT
From baggage exit 1 turn left about 30 metres; from exit 2 turn right and continue to the rental zone. Return the car to the separate P34 area, following the operator signs. Confirm the exact bay and key procedure in the booking.
Find the Terminal A rental counter
These collection instructions apply to SIXT. Other WAW companies can use a different desk or an airport hotel.
From baggage reclaim to SIXT
Leave baggage claim through exit 1 and turn left in the arrivals hall, or use exit 2 and turn right. The SIXT counter is in the Terminal A rent a car zone. Check the company name on the voucher before walking to any desk. If the offer names a different operator or an off-airport meeting point, use those instructions rather than following the SIXT route.
Prepare the WAW counter documentsAllow for an unhurried handover
Build in time for bags, the counter queue, payment-card checks and a car inspection. A late arrival needs a reservation that the actual operator will honour at that hour; the presence of a rental zone says nothing about every company staffing. Photograph pre-existing marks, note the fuel level and save the parking exit route before driving away.
Return to the rental car area, not the departures curb
The terminal and return parking are different waypoints.
SIXT uses P34
Approach on Żwirki i Wigury Street, keep right and follow Rent a car return signs toward P34. The P34 return area is a walk from the SIXT branch in Terminal A. Allow time to unload, record the fuel and condition and walk to check-in after the keys are handled. Do not drive to the passenger drop-off curb expecting a vehicle handover there.
Check your operator and time
The P34 instruction is specific to SIXT. A different supplier may require another bay, key box or staffed inspection. Follow the actual reservation and any after-hours procedure confirmed by the branch. If the planned return is a different Polish airport, select that point in the quote first; the WAW return directions no longer apply.
Compare Polish airport return optionsChoose the day to collect
A central Warsaw stay and a cross-country drive need different rental timing.
Drive away on arrival
Airport collection fits a first night outside Warsaw or a route starting immediately. Enter the accommodation address while parked and allow for unfamiliar junctions leaving the airport. The booked vehicle class should fit all passengers and bags without using seats or blocking windows as overflow storage. Airport collection is only useful if the counter hours fit the landing and the parking plan at the destination.
Delay for a city break
SIXT also operates Warsaw city branches. If several days are spent in central Warsaw, compare the transfer and a later branch pickup against keeping a car parked. A city hotel location has its own opening times and return rules and may not be available in the same offer. Choose the actual branch in the search rather than assuming an airport reservation can be collected downtown.
Compare Warsaw pickup timingPlan a Polish onward route
The airport search is a starting point, not permission for every road or border.
Choose the region first
For the Baltic coast, Gdańsk Airport may save a long repositioning drive. Kraków Airport is a more direct southern start. Compare the actual arrival flights and one-way return pair before choosing WAW simply because it is the default. Check current road conditions and closures on the Polish road authority map on the day of travel.
Compare Gdańsk Airport pickupDistinguish Chopin from Modlin
Warsaw Chopin and Warsaw Modlin are separate airports. A Warsaw search phrase may refer to either. Read the booking airport code and street address before paying and use WAW only for a Chopin arrival. If a second driver or border crossing is planned, require explicit supplier terms for that driver and route rather than assuming the category includes them.
Prepare the driver and payment card
Supplier eligibility can be stricter than a legal ability to drive.
Bring originals
Carry the physical, valid national driving licence, passport or identity card and the payment card required by the offer. If your licence is outside the expected format or language, clarify translation or international permit requirements with the supplier in advance. The six-month licence exchange rule concerns residence and is not a blanket rule for a visitor.
Check age, deposit and excess
The selected car and operator determine age conditions, licence history, deposit hold, cover excess and optional protection. Compare the amount due now with the amount due at collection. A quoted vehicle class does not promise an exact model. Confirm the payment card can carry the hold and that every proposed driver meets the booked terms.
Compare a like-for-like total
A short headline rate can hide an expensive return plan.
Add the trip costs
Read the quote for taxes, airport fees, fuel rule, mileage, extra drivers, child seats and protection. Check local parking at the first hotel and tolls along the actual route. In winter, confirm the car and equipment appropriate to expected conditions before leaving WAW. Snow, ice and congestion can lengthen journeys.
Set the drop-off before booking
A Warsaw pickup with a Gdańsk or Kraków return needs the exact second airport and dates in the search. The supplier can refuse a pair or add a one-way charge. Compare that with a round trip after allowing for fuel, tolls and driving time. No page can establish acceptance of your exact itinerary without the actual offer.
