Zurich Airport car hire

Zurich Airport’s standard car-rental centre is on the first floor of Airport Shopping. Follow the Car Rental signs from the terminal and collect from the named operator, then use its instructions for the car. On return, the airport directs rental vehicles to the Car Rental entrance at car park P3. Enterprise GO is a distinct app-based station on P3 level 0Z, with its own spaces and barrier procedure. If the first stay is in central Zurich, compare the airport train and a later rental start before paying for parked days.

Supplier collection arrangements

Selected airport rental operators and collection arrangements. Check availability in your search. Your selected offer and voucher identify the booked branch.

Rental office at Airport Shopping first floor

  • Enterprise Zurich Airport

The conventional Enterprise airport office is in the terminal rental centre and does not require a shuttle from the terminal. Follow the booked branch’s parking and after-hours return directions, with P3 as the airport’s signed rental return.

App-based collection at P3 level 0Z, spaces 6 to 9

  • Enterprise GO Zurich Airport

This is a separate contactless station. Go via the car-rental level lifts to P3 level 0Z, use the Enterprise GO app and QR code, and return only to its numbered spaces 6 to 9. Do not use the conventional counter return bay for this product.

Find the booked rental product in Airport Shopping

Terminal arrival and actual handover are separate steps.

Conventional desk

From either arrival area, follow Car Rental to the rental centre on the first floor of Airport Shopping. The airport identifies the rental brands there, and Enterprise confirms its airport office is in the terminal without a shuttle. Present the reservation, lead-driver documents and accepted card at the named counter. Ask where the assigned vehicle is parked, record existing damage and learn the fuel or charging requirement before leaving the car park.

Contactless GO is different

Enterprise GO is an app-based station in P3 on level 0Z, spaces 6 to 9. Its pickup instructions lead from the car-rental floor by lift down to the car-sharing area. The app supplies the digital key and barrier code. Only select this route if the actual booking names Enterprise GO and you have completed the app requirements before landing. A conventional Enterprise reservation should use the terminal office.

Aim for P3 Car Rental on the airport approach

The passenger forecourt is not the rental return.

Standard airport return

Zurich Airport tells drivers to follow Car Rental signs to car park P3. Set enough time to locate the named company’s bay, refuel or recharge as required, document the vehicle state and walk back into the terminal. The airport has a fuel station on its grounds, but your exact fuel policy comes from the rental agreement. Check the voucher for after-hours key arrangements and who bears responsibility until inspection.

GO level 0Z

Enterprise GO returns use the P3 entrance and then the CARSHARING route to level 0Z, not the conventional agency ramp. Use the app’s barrier QR code and park only in GO spaces 6 to 9. The provider warns that other bays can cause extra costs. Keep the app confirmation and photos until the return is closed. This special route matters even though the airport-wide sign also says Car Rental.

Decide whether the first Zurich days need a car

The airport train makes a later rental start a real alternative.

Rail into town

Zurich Airport trains run to the main station about every ten minutes and take around 15 minutes. If the opening nights are in central Zurich, compare rail tickets plus a later named rental branch with airport hire plus hotel or city parking. Include a return trip to the airport if the later branch is there, and make sure its opening hours match your planned driving day.

Compare Zurich pickup timing

Drive straight out

Airport pickup is practical when the first stop is beyond the city or baggage makes a direct road transfer easier. Allow time for baggage, the rental centre, vehicle inspection and an unfamiliar road network. A late arrival should not be paired with a demanding mountain route just because the car can be collected. Confirm desk hours and delayed-flight handling before choosing a tight handover slot.

Compare the whole Zurich Airport agreement

The daily rate omits several decisions that change the real spend.

Rental conditions

Check the accepted card, security hold, excess, included protection and exclusions, mileage, additional drivers, child seats, fuel or charging policy and return time. Compare like-for-like vehicle classes and the exact branch. A different-city return, such as Geneva, must be available in the chosen offer and can have its own fee. Keep the contract and inspection record until all charges are settled.

Estimate a Zurich rental total

Motorway vignette

Swiss motorway and expressway use needs a valid vignette. Check the actual car at collection and ask the supplier whether the charge is already covered before buying one. The vignette belongs to the vehicle and is not a border permit. If your route stays on other roads, do not buy a vignette only because it appears in generic travel advice; check the planned route first.

Fit the vehicle to the Swiss road days

Passengers, baggage and equipment determine a useful class more than a badge.

Boot and garage fit

Test the class against all cases, pushchairs or ski bags with every passenger seated. Keep bags enclosed and out of view. A larger car can solve luggage fit while creating more difficulty in older garages or narrow access roads. Check the accommodation parking height and the rental’s tyre, wheel and underbody exclusions. An automatic transmission or child seat is a booking choice, not a guarantee from a broad vehicle category.

Choose a car for the full group

Cold-weather equipment

Swiss rules require control of the vehicle in conditions encountered, although there is no fixed nationwide winter-tyre mandate. Ask which tyres are actually fitted and whether chains are supplied or permitted for the booked model. Do not assume all-wheel drive grants permission or grip on snow. Review the weather and road situation before a higher route, and move a long drive to daylight if conditions are uncertain.

Plan the first road day and the final return together

A nationwide itinerary can start from either of the two major gateways.

Zurich-led circuit

Zurich can suit a trip beginning around the northern or central Swiss rail and road network. The airport train may handle a short city stay before the first driving day. Put the intended overnight stops and return airport into the search; a one-way Geneva finish is a different contract from a Zurich loop. Confirm motorway access, parking and any mountain route before committing to a long first leg.

Compare Switzerland starting points

Neighbouring country plan

A road itinerary may cross into France, Germany, Austria or Italy. Do not interpret an open border as rental permission. Tell the selected company each country, vehicle class and intended return branch, then check written permission, cover, assistance and any fee. A foreign visit and an international one-way drop are separate choices. Keep the exact branch pair on the confirmed reservation.

Zurich Airport rental questions

Where are the Zurich Airport car hire desks?

The airport’s conventional rental centre is on the first floor of Airport Shopping. Follow Car Rental signs and the brand on the reservation.

Where do I return a hire car at Zurich Airport?

Follow airport signs for Car Rental to P3, then the selected operator’s bay and key instructions. Enterprise GO uses a separate car-sharing route to P3 level 0Z and spaces 6 to 9.

Is Enterprise GO the same as the Enterprise counter?

No. GO is app-based and uses numbered spaces at P3 level 0Z. The conventional Enterprise airport office is in the terminal rental centre.

Should I collect a car before a Zurich city stay?

Compare hotel parking and unused rental days with the airport train, which reaches Zurich main station in about 15 minutes. Check the exact later branch and its hours.

Does my Zurich Airport car have a motorway vignette?

Check the actual vehicle at collection and ask the supplier. Swiss motorway and expressway use requires a valid vignette, but its status cannot be assumed from the airport or vehicle class.
