Do you need a park pass for Uluṟu?

Yes. Adults pay $38 for a three-day pass or $50 for an annual pass; under-18s enter free. Buy online for convenience, then print the pass or save it to your phone, use the left-hand lane at the entry station and scan its QR code to open the gate. If you cannot buy online, you can pick a pass up at the entry station on your way in. The NT Parks Visitor Pass cannot be used to enter Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.

Can you drive around Uluṟu?

Yes. All roads in the national park are sealed, so a normal 2WD is fine for driving around Uluṟu. Do not assume that a road beyond the park boundary is covered by the same conditions.

What about Kata Tjuṯa?

Kata Tjuṯa lies 50 km by road from Uluṟu, and the drive from Ayers Rock Resort takes 45 minutes. The extra drive adds time to a single-day visit, so plan a departure that leaves daylight for the return, especially if you combine walks at both sites.

Where should you hire?

Ayers Rock Airport suits a short park stay, and Alice Springs Airport suits a wider Red Centre trip. Check that your rental agreement permits every road outside the national park on your itinerary. The pass covers park entry, not the hire car or any separate permit.
