Tasmania parks pass with a hire car

A valid pass is required at Freycinet for Wineglass Bay and at Cradle Mountain. For a hire car, select HIRE before you know its registration. Choose the pass type carefully: the 24-hour Daily Vehicle Pass excludes Cradle, while the Holiday Vehicle Pass covers all national parks for up to two months but not the Cradle shuttle.

What do you enter for a rental car registration?

Select HIRE in the online registration field before you collect the car. The hire vehicle's registration is not required, so you can arrange entry before you know which vehicle will be supplied.

Which pass covers Wineglass Bay and Cradle Mountain?

Wineglass Bay is in Freycinet National Park, so you need a valid pass. The $49.15 Daily Vehicle Pass lasts up to 24 hours but excludes Cradle Mountain. For a trip that includes Cradle, the $98.35 Holiday Vehicle Pass covers all Tasmanian national parks for up to two months and up to eight people in one vehicle. If Cradle is your only national park visit, its $30.70 adult Icon Daily Pass includes the shuttle. Fees can change, so confirm the price when you buy.

Does the pass include the Cradle shuttle?

The Holiday Vehicle Pass does not include the Cradle shuttle. Adults without an eligible Icon or Overland Track pass need a separate shuttle ticket; check the current operating hours and park at the visitor centre during shuttle operation.

When should you buy and display the pass?

You can select a start date up to three months ahead online. Since passes are generally non-refundable, align the start date with your park visit and keep the pass available when travelling in the hire car.

What if the rental vehicle changes?

If you have not collected the car, enter HIRE when buying the pass. If a registration already on your pass must change, email Parks Tasmania Visitor Services with the pass number and the registration to add and remove.
