Evenes Airport car hire

Evenes Airport is a mainland gateway for a Lofoten road trip, not an airport on the islands. SIXT’s arrivals counter is opposite the Airport Service Center and its cars are in P10 across the road. Enterprise has an arrivals office by baggage claim and uses marked P10 stalls. Their key returns and after-hours terms differ, so follow the booked operator’s directions. The drive from Evenes to Svolvær is about two and a half hours as a planning estimate and can take longer in winter.

Best for: A mainland flight with an E10 drive into Lofoten

Use airport code EVE and the booked operator’s own P10 directions.

Supplier collection arrangements

Selected airport rental operators and collection arrangements. Check availability in your search. Your selected offer and voucher identify the booked branch.

Arrivals hall opposite Airport Service Center; SIXT car parking P10 across the road

  • SIXT Harstad/Narvik Airport

Return to SIXT P10 parking. Hand keys to the desk or marked key safe beside it; returns are accepted at any hour.

Arrivals office left by baggage claim; Enterprise-marked bays in P10

  • Enterprise Evenes Airport

Return to an Enterprise-marked P10 bay and use the terminal key box. For an after-hours return, responsibility continues until staff check the vehicle in on the next working day.

Other rental companies

  • Avis, Budget, Hertz and Europcar

Find the booked Evenes collection point

P10 is useful only with the operator’s specific directions.

Collect SIXT from arrivals, then cross to P10

The SIXT counter is in the arrivals hall opposite the Airport Service Center. After the desk handover, leave the hall, turn right, pass the end of the terminal, cross the road and use SIXT parking in P10. The branch address is Flyplassveien 68. Match the assigned bay and vehicle to the rental agreement before loading luggage; P10 is also used by another operator, so the company markings matter.

Prepare the Evenes counter check

Use Enterprise’s own desk and marked bays

The Enterprise office sits in arrivals, left by baggage claim. Its cars use Enterprise-marked spaces in P10. An after-hours collection needs the branch’s advance check-in and key-box process; complete those steps before arriving. The branch does not provide a pickup service from another location. Avis and other airport-roster brands may have different arrangements, so do not use this Enterprise procedure for a different booking.

Compare Lofoten arrival options

Set an achievable first drive into Lofoten

Evenes is outside the archipelago, so arrival time changes the plan.

Allow for the full E10 approach

The road from Evenes to Svolvær uses the E10 and Lofast mainland connection. It takes about two and a half hours as a planning estimate; winter can add time. Add baggage collection, a counter queue, an inspection and stops before estimating the hotel arrival. A late flight plus a long road leg is a different commitment from collecting after an island landing at Leknes.

Keep the first overnight stop realistic

If the flight reaches EVE late, consider whether a mainland or early-route overnight stop fits the party better than continuing immediately to a distant Lofoten base. Do not rely on the usual drive time when wind, ice or a closure affects the road. Check the live route notice and weather before leaving the airport, then inform accommodation if the arrival changes. The E10 is the main link; choosing an unploughed side road will not recover lost time.

Check live traffic on the E10

Match the car to the mainland and island legs

The longest full-load day should set the vehicle class.

Measure luggage before choosing size

An Evenes collection may put every passenger and bag in the car for the whole approach to Lofoten. Compare usable seats, child-seat positions and boot space, especially if the group changes accommodation during the trip. An estate may give more luggage space without the height of an SUV; either category still needs a suitable confirmed vehicle. Choose transmission and equipment in the actual offer and measure fit against the bags you will bring.

Choose a fitting rental category

Ask about tyres for the travel dates

Drivers must maintain sufficient grip, and local winter travel can involve ice, narrow roads and closures. Confirm the tyres and season-specific equipment fitted to the car you will receive. A larger drivetrain does not replace appropriate tyres or road judgement. If a route into the islands is closed or conditions are beyond the driver’s experience, change the plan rather than counting on a vehicle badge to get through.

Continue through Lofast without an island ferry

The E10 road link changes the arrival choice.

Understand the main crossing

From Evenes, the E10/Lofast connection enters Lofoten by road. Bridges and tunnels link the main island journey, with no car ferry needed along the Moskenes-to-Fiskebøl span. This lets a hire car follow the archipelago without booking a crossing between those ends. Budget time for stops and smaller-road conditions rather than treating a map’s uninterrupted line as a fixed journey time.

Separate the Bodø approach

The Bodø to Moskenes vehicle ferry is a different way into or out of southern Lofoten. Check the actual sailing, vehicle booking and terminal arrival requirements for your date. If using a rented car, secure any ferry permission required by its contract and align the reservation with the allowed return station. The ferry does not shorten the EVE airport handover, and a missed sailing may affect a one-way drop-off or departure flight.

Read the contract details at EVE

Check the collection card, deposit or hold, excess and protection, fuel rule, mileage, additional drivers and child seats before accepting a quote. Budget fuel and parking along the mainland approach and island stay. Winter equipment and a late collection may need specific confirmation rather than an assumption from the daily rate. Keep the operator and airport code on the paperwork consistent with the flight and P10 collection directions.

Quote any different-station finish

Returning at Leknes instead of Evenes, or using a ferry to leave from Moskenes, changes the itinerary materially. Enter the exact final station before paying and review any one-way conditions in the accepted offer. A vehicle reservation on a ferry is separate from the rental firm’s permission to take its car aboard. Leave enough time to reach the booked return bay, inspect the car and travel onward.

Review a Leknes return

Use the correct P10 return and key procedure

SIXT and Enterprise do not close the rental in the same way.

Return SIXT to its P10 spaces

Follow the SIXT parking signs at P10, then return the key to the SIXT desk or the marked key safe beside it. The branch accepts returns at any hour. Record fuel and car condition, including wheels and glass, before leaving the vehicle. Do not put a SIXT key into a different brand’s box merely because both rentals use the P10 area.

Record an Enterprise after-hours return carefully

Park in an Enterprise-marked P10 stall and place the key in the terminal box. For an after-hours return, the renter remains responsible until staff check the vehicle in on the next working day. Photograph the parked car, fuel and key handover, then retain the agreement. For Avis, plan to return during office hours unless the branch confirms an after-hours arrangement for the exact booking. Ask for the handback point and key instructions; do not assume a key box.
