Fort Lauderdale Airport car rental

FLL has a Rental Car Center at 600 Terminal Drive beside Terminal 1. From Terminal 1, follow signs to the level 2 Concourse B bridge. From Terminals 2, 3 and 4, take the free lower-level shuttle. An off-site booking adds a transfer from the center’s Zone G. Return the car to the booked company at its confirmed location, then allow for the bridge or shuttle back to departures.

Counters on levels 2 to 4 at 600 Terminal Drive

  • Rental Car Center operators

The company and counter floor differ. Use the name on the offer and return to its marked bay.

Courtesy shuttle from Zone G at the Rental Car Center

  • Off-site rental operators

Reach the center first, then contact the booked company at Zone G; its depot return is separate.

Reach the correct counter from your arrival terminal

The arrival terminal changes the first leg of collection.

Walk from Terminal 1

After baggage claim, follow Rental Car Center signs to the Concourse B pedestrian bridge on level 2. The center is beside Terminal 1, but the correct counter may be on a different floor. Check the booked brand and its hours before heading for a queue. The bridge is a passenger connection, not the vehicle handback lane.

Use the shuttle from Terminals 2 to 4

Outside lower-level baggage claim, follow Rental Car Center signs to the free shuttle pick-up. It serves the center at level 3 and runs regularly through the day and night. Keep luggage together for the extra transfer. If the offer is off-site, change to the operator’s courtesy vehicle at Zone G rather than assuming the airport shuttle reaches the depot.

Check suitcase and seat fit

Compare the off-airport collection

An off-airport SurPrice shuttle collection example uses 312 W State Rd 84, Fort Lauderdale. That depot is separate from the Rental Car Center. Follow the booked shuttle meeting instructions and reconfirm the depot address and hours for the actual reservation.

Check the exact operator before accepting the keys

The airport has several desks, but each agreement controls the vehicle.

Allow time for counter and vehicle inspection

FLL shows different operating hours for center brands, including some overnight closures. A 24-hour center shuttle is not proof that your desk will hand over a car at the same time. Confirm delayed-flight handling, named drivers, original licence, identification and payment card. At the bay, photograph panels, wheels, glass, fuel and mileage.

Treat off-site pickup as a second journey

An off-site option can involve an additional wait and a separate depot after Zone G. Compare the full journey after landing, especially with children, heavy bags or a late arrival. Check the actual supplier address, shuttle instructions and opening time on the offer. A brand name on the airport roster does not make its depot a terminal desk.

Decide whether the car is useful on the first day

A beach stay, cruise departure and Florida road trip start differently.

Match pickup to the first overnight stop

An immediate Broward or coastal drive favors airport collection, while a car parked during a short beach or cruise stay may add idle rental days and parking. Compare a later named branch with transfer cost and hours. If Port Everglades is the next stop, do not assume the airport rental can be left at a cruise terminal.

Compare airport and later collection

Choose a separate Miami or Keys return explicitly

The corridor toward Miami and the Keys can make a different-station finish tempting. Enter the exact return branch, date and time before treating that as possible. Check the full quote for one-way charges, mileage and supplier policy. A map pin in another city is not an accepted vehicle return instruction.

Price Florida tolls and the whole agreement

The daily rate omits several common trip costs.

Set a toll payment method before driving

Florida tolls can be billed through a rental supplier program with administrative fees. A personal compatible transponder may need the rental plate and dates entered correctly and may be limited by the supplier’s terms. Do not assume that TOLL-BY-PLATE will bill the driver directly; the owner is normally billed. Check the selected agreement before joining a toll lane.

Compare the final cost, not just rental days

Add airport charges, tax, security hold, damage excess or optional cover, fuel, additional drivers, child seats, parking, toll handling and any different-station fee. The cardholder and required credit limit matter at the counter. A small vehicle can save on a rate yet fail the actual suitcase or child-seat fit test.

Estimate the FLL trip total

Leave room for road and weather changes

South Florida driving time can change on the day.

Use the correct first destination

Set the accommodation, cruise terminal or confirmed branch address before leaving the center. A generic Fort Lauderdale pin can put a driver on the wrong side of waterways or one-way streets. Check live Florida 511 incidents if the trip crosses the Miami corridor, and keep an arrival buffer instead of promising a fixed road time.

Keep vehicle permissions separate from road access

A road being open does not mean every rental agreement permits every trip or surface. Confirm any interstate, toll, ferry or unpaved use with the selected supplier. International visitors should check Florida driving requirements and whether an international permit accompanies their original licence for their situation.

Confirm terminal and operator before leaving baggage claim

The same airport booking can involve one or two ground transfers.

Check the actual arrival terminal

FLL international arrivals can use a different terminal from the departure shown on an airline itinerary. Use the arrival baggage-claim location to choose the Terminal 1 bridge or a lower-level shuttle stop. Travellers with bulky luggage or mobility needs should account for the bridge or bus transfer before choosing an operator with a narrow closing window.

Keep a second meeting place for off-site pickup

Zone G is at the Rental Car Center, not outside every airline terminal. An off-site supplier may require a call from the courtesy phone between bus stop 6 and Zone G. Save the booking contact and phone number offline. On return, its shuttle back to the RCC must precede the terminal bridge or shuttle, so departure time needs two transfers.

Return to the booked company before going to departures

The terminal curb is not a rental return.

Navigate to the correct return site

For a center rental, use 600 Terminal Drive and the booked company’s marked RCC return lane. Off-site rentals go back to their own depot, followed by the supplier’s transfer. Refuel under the agreement and leave time to remove belongings and complete an inspection. Confirm any after-hours process directly with the brand.

Complete the terminal transfer

From the RCC, take the level 2 bridge to Terminal 1 or the shuttle to Terminals 2, 3 and 4. The center shuttle boards on level 3 and serves arrivals level at the terminals. Photograph final condition, fuel and mileage, keep receipts, and allow for a later toll bill before discarding the agreement.
