North and mountain days
A northern base can make the airport car useful straight away, while a Palma-first holiday can begin its Tramuntana drive from a city branch later. Roads through mountain villages and parking areas call for a vehicle that carries all cases but remains manageable. Plan the last legal parking place for a walk into a village, and do not infer that a large vehicle brings access to every narrow lane.

A hired car is a private vehicle
The Formentor road Ma-2210 has a regulated period and restricted private-vehicle access toward the lighthouse. The 2026 restriction runs from May to October and distinguishes beach and lighthouse sections. Read the current rules for the travel date: permission, parking and enforcement can change. A hire agreement cannot override a traffic restriction, and arriving before the restricted hours does not automatically permit remaining on the road.
Use the bus for the restricted leg
TIB line 334 runs via Port de Pollença towards Formentor in its operating season. Parking near the Port de Pollença ring road connects with buses onward. Check the live timetable and parking rules, then allow time to return to the car. This can preserve a useful Mallorca rental for the rest of the trip without planning an unlawful lighthouse drive.
