Drive to the booked Río Segundo office, settle fuel and condition, then use Adobe transfer to SJO. Allow time for the office process, bags, traffic and the shuttle. Ask about a return outside branch hours before booking. The passenger drop-off curb is not the Adobe vehicle return point.
Enterprise has its own handover
The Enterprise vehicle facility is separate from its airport counter. Use its reservation for the return office, key procedure and any transfer to departures. Do not follow Adobe directions for an Enterprise car. Photograph the returned vehicle and keep a receipt, especially if the staff inspection occurs later.

If the first days are in central San José, compare a transfer and later city pickup against idle rental days and parking. Adobe has a separate San José office in addition to its Alajuela airport office. Do not assume an SJO reservation can be collected at the city office; select and verify that branch in the offer.

Foreign licence and stay
Before collecting at SJO, check that each driver has a valid foreign licence for the car class and remains within the immigration-authorised stay. Costa Rica accepts a digital licence officially issued in that form, not a photograph of a physical card. Bring the passport needed for identity checks and verify the format with the chosen rental company. Adobe needs more than two consecutive years of licence tenure and an IDP alongside a digital or non-Latin-script licence. Confirm other suppliers' rules separately.
Supplier eligibility
The operator sets age, licence history, card and deposit conditions. An additional driver must satisfy those requirements and be named in the agreement. At the facility, compare the price and cover on the voucher to the contract, then record existing damage, fuel, tyres and glass before leaving.

An SUV or 4x4 is useful only when the actual route and agreement call for it.
La Fortuna and Arenal
The SJO side can suit a Central Valley or Arenal journey. Check the park sector and current access rather than treating La Fortuna as one vehicle destination. If the lodging approach is unsealed or steep, ask both the accommodation and supplier about the road and an appropriate permitted car. Do not infer that a 4x4 makes every track acceptable.
Central Pacific and Quepos
For a Quepos or Manuel Antonio plan, Manuel Antonio National Park has no vehicle parking and its approach road can be busy. Arrange parking outside the park and allow time to reach the entrance. A rental is useful for the wider route, but the final visitor access still needs planning.

Separate mandatory liability
Third-party liability and damage protection for the rental vehicle are separate components. Compare the offer with both components, excess, deposit and exclusions visible. A Central Valley start can end near Guanacaste, but the SJO to LIR one-way pair must be entered and accepted before booking.
