Western Sydney Airport car hire (WSI)

Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) is scheduled to welcome its first passenger flights on 25 October 2026, with six rental brands planned for launch: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot and SIXT. Rental counters are planned inside the terminal, but collection, return and opening-hour arrangements differ by provider. Choose WSI as your pickup and select a date on or after 25 October 2026; this is WSI, not Sydney Airport (SYD).

Collecting the car

  1. 1

Choose Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) as the pickup location and select a pickup date on or after 25 October 2026, the scheduled start of passenger flights.

  2. 2

Check the provider shown on your booking. Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot and SIXT are planned for passenger launch; vehicle availability varies by date.

  3. 3

Rental counters are planned inside the terminal. SIXT's kiosk and car lot are beside P1; follow your provider's directions for other collection points.

  4. 4

Check the collection time and staffed hours in your booking before travelling. Airport operating hours do not set each rental counter's hours, and late collection arrangements depend on the provider.

Returning your hire car at WSI

  1. 1

Follow the airport's car-rental return signs and the return address or bay in your booking. Do not use passenger pickup and drop-off zones as the rental return point.

  2. 2

Follow your provider's hand-back instructions. Avis returns go to P1 and after-hours returns are unavailable; SIXT's return lot is beside P1. Other providers set their own return locations and key procedures.

  3. 3

Confirm the return deadline and any after-hours key process directly in the rental terms. Airport opening does not mean every rental desk or return service operates around the clock.

  4. 4

Ask how tolls are handled before driving. The M12 is toll-free, but onward routes can use tolled motorways such as the M7, and rental toll administration terms vary.

Drives from Western Sydney Airport

Distances are approximate and measured along the road.

Penrith and the Nepean River

Explore the Yandhai Nepean Crossing and Great River Walk, with picnic areas at Tench Reserve and Regatta Park. Check parking and access for each stop before setting out.

Blue Mountains National Park

Plan a self-drive day among the park's lookouts and walks. Glenbrook and Katoomba are entry areas, with the M4 and Great Western Highway among the main access roads; check traffic alerts, park notices and parking before departure.

Penrith Whitewater Stadium

Add rafting or kayaking at McCarthy's Lane, Cranebrook, for an active Penrith-area outing. Check session availability and directions before you travel.

Driving around Western Sydney Airport

The M12 is toll-free, but other roads may not be

The 16 km M12 provides toll-free access to the airport precinct. This applies to the M12 itself; check a current toll calculator and your rental provider's toll terms for onward travel.

Westlink M7 uses electronic tolling

Westlink M7 has no cash toll booths. Review current toll charges and your rental provider's toll arrangements before using it.

Toll costs depend on the route and vehicle

A trip beyond the M12 may use tolled roads. Toll charges can depend on distance and vehicle class, while a rental agreement may add toll-processing fees, so review both before choosing a route.

Check rental hours separately from airport hours

Staffed schedules and after-hours return rules differ by provider. Confirm your collection and hand-back arrangements for the exact date on your booking.

Public transport is a separate option

Regular bus routes connect WSI with Penrith, Mount Druitt, Liverpool, Campbelltown and Leppington. A free airport shuttle to St Marys is planned until the Metro service begins; check the live timetable for your travel date.
